Oct. 26, 2022 - PTL’s Flutie 5K Dances to the Finish Line

Hello,

My name is Gianessa Pirro, and I'm the Academic Coordinator for PTL Shiremont (West Lebanon, NH), Bradford, and Saint Johnsbury.

Our Fall semester is in full swing, with several exciting classes taking place across campuses. Please visit the Campuses page on our website (https://www.peerteachingandlearning.org/campuses): Click on any green button to view the campus catalog and see what participants are teaching.

This past week we had the opportunity to participate in the Flutie 5K as a charity partner for the second year in a row. As a charity partner for their annual 5K, our participants have the unique opportunity to raise funds for their campus in a fun and active way. We are honored to be part of the Flutie Foundation community, as their mission and vision align closely with ours.

This year our campuses brainstormed the different ways one could participate in meeting the goals of a traditional 5K in a way that best aligned with everyone's abilities. PTL Bradford, Shiremont, and Saint Johnsbury each decided to host a Flutie 5K dance party. Each campus raised funds several weeks before the event by talking to local businesses in their communities and placing donation jars at willing locations. PTL Shiremont raised over $125 through their partnership with Jake's convenience store in Enfield! The Saint Johnsbury campus charged a $2 admission price to their dance party, which included entry to a poster raffle, with posters provided by Chapman's General in Fairlee; they raised over $75. PTL Bradford participants danced to their favorite songs and invited home providers, friends, and support staff to join in the fun.

Each campus had its own dance party style, but the energy and excitement were palpable during each experience. The Flutie Foundation was at the forefront of our 11 campuses this week, and while our tally has yet to be finalized, we expect to surpass our $1,000 fundraising goal. This could not have happened without our participants' hard work and our campus community’s support!
