Nov. 16, 2022 - From Campus to Community

This semester, we have more classes taking place in person, and we can get out and learn within our communities, as well. Participants have a new appreciation for in-person learning after having classes held virtually for over a year, and they have embraced making these community connections in various ways.

Recently, a PTL Springfield participant took this idea full circle for her class. Our faculty participant has always loved horses and has been involved with horseback riding since she was a child. She taught about horse care, riding, and owning a horse using a multimedia PowerPoint in the classroom; she answered questions and talked to us about best practices for interacting with horses. This was all in preparation for a visit to Dream on Curls Riding Center (http://www.dreamoncurls.com/), where the community part of her class was held. Our PTL faculty participant took our learning from the classroom and then directly demonstrated her skills and techniques in a community location for everyone to learn from. This was not only an excellent demonstration of hands-on learning, but it also allowed for meaningful connections to be made for other participants to get involved in horse care, riding, and/or equine therapeutics.

Peer Teaching & Learning understands that not all of our participants can engage in person or community-based locations for classes. For some, it is related to health and safety concerns; for others, it could be due to work schedules that limit daytime participation. PTL wants to accommodate all our participants in a learning format that best suits their needs and schedule. We are launching a digital campus and hosting a Q&A session on Thursday, November 17th, at 5:30 PM. Please join us if you would like to learn more.
